No one could miss them. Student, faculty and staff, as well as visitors and community members no doubt noticed the nearly 4,000 blue and pink flags posted in the front lawn of Main Hall during the last week in October. The pink and blue flags, which represented the number of abortions that happen in the US each day, were put up as a protest by Students for Life, a recognized student organization.

The Lawrence campus is generally considered extremely safe. Students leave their doors unlocked, leave their coats and backpacks in the lobbies of Downer and Lucy's and might even leave their laptops sitting in the library while they make a quick Grill run.

What began as one college student's self-expression for her love of all things pink turned into a world-wide, week-long celebration called Pink Week. UW-Green Bay plays an important role in the festivities as the first-ever Pink Week Embassy.

The history of Pink Week

The year was 1993, and Gioia Fonda, the founder of Pink Week, was attending the California College of Arts and Crafts.
